Apple pie

Ingredients for apple pie with toasted crust

For the base:

1 package of buckwheat crusts for Jovana banitsa
100 g melted cow butter

For the filling:

5 apples
100 g brown sugar
2 tbsp wholemeal flour
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp Vanilla extract
Juice of 1 lemon

For the crust:

100 g wholemeal flour
40 g coarse oats
70 g brown sugar
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
100 g cow butter in pieces

Method of preparation

Lay a crust on the worktop and brush it with butter.
Place another crust on top, but at a different angle, and brush it again with butter. Repeat this with all the crusts so that a circle forms at the end.
Move the base into a round pan so that it covers the bottom and sides and screw the protruding edges inwards.

Peel the apples and cut into pieces. Place in a bowl.

Add the sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice.

Stir everything together and pour over the crust base.

Mix all the ingredients for the crust in a bowl and rub them together with your fingers to make buttery crumbs

Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.

Bake the pie in a preheated 170 degree oven for about 40 minutes. Check the pie after the 20th minute. If the crust has become golden, place aluminum foil and bake for another 20 minutes.

After baking, allow to cool thoroughly for at least 3-4 hours

Optionally serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
