Balkan Lasagna

Ingredients:

For the Sauce:

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 medium onion
2 cloves garlic
800 grams ground meat
400 ml tomato sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried parsley

For the Cheese Filling:

400 grams cottage cheese
1 cup grated kashkaval cheese
2 eggs
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup finely chopped parsley

Additional Ingredients:

Fresh mozzarella slices, for topping
1 package filo (phyllo) dough with activated charcoal (brand such as Jovana)
350 grams ready-made tomato sauce for pizza or pasta.

Method of preparation:

 

  1. Chop the onion and sauté in the olive oil for a few minutes until soft. Add the chopped garlic and fry for a minute.
    2. Add the minced meat and fry until crumbly.
    3. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste and spices.
    4. Leave for a few minutes and turn off the heat.

 

  1. In a bowl mix all the ingredients for the cheese filling and stir them together.

Put half of the prepared tomato sauce on the bottom of a pizza or pasta pan.

Cover it with three pieces of toasted crust and pour half of the sauce with minced meat.

Place three more crusts over the sauce and spread the cheese filling evenly.
Continue with three more crusts and top with the other half of the mince sauce.

Cover with the remaining crusts, spread the other half with tomato pizza sauce or pasta sauce and top with mozzarella and cheese.

Place the tray in a preheated oven and bake until golden, about 30-40 minutes.
